I was just walking to the shops this morning when the left earbud started playing up, turning off and on. I thought it was my iPod – a reasonable assumption given the general unreliability of the little bastard – but now that I get home and play with the earbuds with my Powerbook, no, it is in fact the earbuds. It looks like the left channel wire has snapped inside the cord near the plug, judging by the reaction to my fiddling. I could fix them, probably… but I think it’d be more fun to find some cruel torture for them.
They’re not worth replacing; they’re my second pair anyway, and within a month started having exactly the same problem as the first, so I think I’ll just give up on them.
