I went with a bunch of people from work to see Harry Potter 5 the other night. I wasn’t especially interested in seeing it, but I both wanted to chill for a night and was hoping people would be all psychotically obsessed and dress up. Sadly, there were no costumes or special antics. :/
The movie itself was okay. A bit more of the same… better than the previous one, not as good as the first… and so it goes. There were a few things in it which were a little odd, and I felt the acting as always from the main trio was frequently poor, but, there was a bit more focus on stuff actually happening, and not just rambling on about the joys of magic feathers float around. Reality alert: feathers float around all by themselves anyway!
Sorry to shatter the illusions held by so many, but… and there was also some attempt at a love plotline, or at least, romance… or at least… no, I don’t know what that was. It was just weird, and seemed there only to serve a specific point in the storyline, but that point was never properly enforced, so the whole thing just seemed like a bizarre deviation.
It was very nearly entertaining just for the cinema experience itself, though – at about 5 minutes after the scheduled start time, after we’d already been sitting there for half an hour or more, they turned the lights on and it was quickly noticed that someone was looking at the projector with a somewhat confused expression, and talking on their phone. Needless to say, some kind of mechanical failure. Jeff wanted to incite the crowd into chanting their demands, which we all thoroughly encouraged, but he didn’t have the stomach for it ultimately. :)
It was fixed surprisingly promptly, though, and we were only delayed another ten minutes or so. All those among us who’ve gone and bought iPhones already were playing their various web games, while we sat there and silently seethed with jealousy. :)
