Well, it’s a little late, but better than never. I can’t remember ever doing anything in particular on Valentines day… presumably I did when Sarah & I were together – I never would have gotten away with not doing something :D – but I can’t recall.

So, in the true spirit of single guys everywhere, I’m going to facetiously diss Valentines day through the wonder of satire. :) Or at least, let someone with humour and artistic talent do it for me. :D

This is related to the story last week by The Free Lance-Star, A missile punch at bullet prices, on the successful testing (by the U.S. navy) of an 8MJ railgun. It probably won’t mean much to earlier generations, but for those that grew up playing Quake 3, this is all too funny, and likely to be true one day. :D

Funny because it’s depressingly true. The other day I stopped for petrol and, knowing it would go up for the weekend, decided to get a fair bit to try and weather it out. I went with $40, which actually pushed the needle up past three quarters full (although it’s not linear, so I don’t really know how full it was). I was tempted to fill it up, but was afraid of what it might cost. :(

Now while some people will immediately decry this as politically incorrect, keep in mind that if we didn’t find this cute in some way, we wouldn’t have the ever-popular stereotype of the bickering old married couple, together for 40 years, and still fighting on. TV soapies as we know them would simply cease to be. :)

I find this immensely amusing, simply because it panders to the Dilbert manager stereotype, the Pointy Haired Boss. By contrast, my bosses have always been great. But still, I think this humour is pretty universal… we can all at least imagine it… everyone knows at least one PHB, even if they don’t work for them. :)

I most admire those who buy their girlfriend’s lingerie for valentines day.

This is a new comic in my collection, who’s archives I’m presently reading through. It’s not too bad; artistically very good, and with some good humour. Largely life based, with the occasional fictional elements… interesting mix of serious thoughts and parodies…

I’ve been collecting a lot of my favourite strips from my various web comics, and I thought I might start sharing a few. I think they’re an interesting insight into me, since they indicate – sometimes quite deeply – my sense of humour (among other things).

This one doesn’t have any especially deep meaning, though – I just find it funny because it’s true. I always hated resuming a course of study after the holidays – especially the summer ones. I’d always forgotten so much by the time we got back into it.

I sometimes think we only learn things in school so we can learn them faster again when we do actually have to use them, years later. I always find I learn on the job, especially with regards to factual information.

School, in my mind, is about being exposed to as much as possible – whether you remember the details or not. That way, later on when you need to solve a problem, you have a large body of ideas to draw from. You can always research the necessary details when they’re needed.
