Tony was working, and I was sitting next to him annoying him, as per usual, while I installed Need for Speed II. Egan was the other side of him, and was having to head home from uni a day early because he had too much weight. I have no idea what that means, but he was apparently several thousand pounds over. I also don’t know why my dreamy conscious hasn’t updated to metric units.

So I devised the dastardly scheme to buy some land, then give people a few square centimetres from it – a slice of the Earth taken from that small area to the core would surely weigh heaps, and they too would get kicked out early.

I have no idea how any of that makes sense.

Then there was Lindsay Lohan on the other side of me, who was thieving one of the monitors to use with her laptop (as in, plugging it in, not actually banditing off with it). And she started up a conversation by asking if Need for Speed II would really run on the crappy lab machines; that it hardly ran at all on her computer. And then I said well if you’re driving properly and not hitting stuff, how often do you need the screen to update. And then we laughed.

I think we were talking about other stuff too, but now I can’t remember what.

Oooh, she had a haircut not dissimilar to my mum’s, and I remember thinking that was kind of scary.

And now I want to play Need for Speed II. Damnit. :)

In it I’m driving a car, doing whatever. And then something happens which requires me to stop. But the brake pedal is only just within reach, when I stretch right out, and I just can’t seem to push it all the way down – even though I can and do. But the car never stops fully – it just slows down to a crawl, and then keeps going. And so I’m effectively steering this out of control car, in slow motion. And I’m trying to dodge something – some kids or somesuch running across the road – but I just can’t.

In the end I hit whatever I’m trying to avoid – be it a tree, a fence, another car, a person – and then it sorta just ends. It’s really bad… it’s got those overtones of being absolutely acutely aware of what’s going on, but not being able to do anything about it. Helpless, in slow motion, with far too much time to think about it. Not cool.
