Chapter 4 - Going Up

When I awoke I was surprised to find the island almost on top of me. But there was still no sound from the falling water and it seemed almost fake. The churning water and spray at the bottom of the waterfall seemed a bit too round and even to be real, as if the water was getting caught in a long transparent pipe. Unfortunately the only conclusion my brain had come up with while I was sleeping was that I was going to be swept under and crushed by the waterfall. I thumped it and gave myself a headache.

My brain threw a tantrum at me and I became quite annoyed through a combination of its rude remarks and the impending waterfall which I was drifting towards. I turned my eyes up towards the large square island at the top and theorized that someone had taken a big chunk of square land and made it float through some sort of magic. That still didn't explain the whole in the middle, or how the waterfall kept flowing when there was only an island at the top, and many, many, many other things.

As I was thinking about this my eyes drifted to the left and suddenly spotted something. It seemed to be a rope of some sort falling from the top of the waterfall to the ocean below. Realizing that this rope could only be man-made and must have some purpose, my brain concluded that there must be people on the island. I disagreed on whether there were any people on the island but agreed that the best course of action was to go a see if I can climb the rope and find something to eat. So, I began paddling my way to the rope.

Several hours later I finally reached the rope and found that it was in fact a ladder, made of a strange wood with the rungs placed perfectly and smoothly. My brain took this as more proof that there were people up on the island, but I still didn't think so. After all, trees can grow weirdly if they like, can't they? I looked up the ladder and started to feel dizzy at the height, but I concluded that it must be pretty safe and so I started to climb...
